I remember watching a few years ago a great program about the history of Las Vegas. The history began Las Vegas' humble beginning then on to the small city I knew when my parents took me there as a 14 year old.  It then progresed into the moderm days showing the mega casinos/hotels and family oriented destinations.  I watched with great interest as they discussed those billion dollar amd then multi billion dollar faciltites.  They finally discussed New York New York, showing how the facility was scaled to depict the major features of New York City that was so accurate that native New Yorkers enjoyed it.  Since my step daughter lives in New York City I have been there many times and I enjoyed seeing it as well.  The documentary finally went to the archiect of record for New York New York and talked to him, a man named F. Neal Gaskin. I was stunned........... a person I had known in band at HHS so many years ago? How could that be? When I got to work the next day I looked through my book of business cards (as I was a civil engineer for 39 years here) and there was F. Neal Gaskin, architect.

So I am sad to see Neal's name among the departed but I have also been happy that he accomplished such a high accolade as an architect. Well done Neal and we will miss you!

Sad to see Your name here Neil.  I also remember you from our time in band.   Thanks to Jim for providing a little history on your life and accomplishments.     I guess God needed a new Sax player for heavens Dance band.

I am sorry to see that you have departed from us. I remember our friendship while
attending HHS and First Baptist Church together all of those years. You were always
an affable and congenial friend. Patty and I cherish the 1990 class reunion in which we talked of good times at Tanoan . I later learned of your architectural accomplishments and the construction New York..New York Hotel..Casino. You were a great human being.

I remember talking to Neal in 1990 as well. He was a kind man....always to me. Being a New Yorker I am proud of the work he did on his last Hotel, NY,NY. The reviews were glowing. The city should have hired him after the opening to bring us a little heart and soul, we could sure use the Gaskin touch.

Neal and I go back to Cub Scout days with Phil Ramsey and Jimmy Smith in Den 7.  Our paths were the same at Bandelier, Wilson and Highland.  He was kind, honest and always there as a friend.  I hadn't followed his career accomplishments, but obviously they are glowing.  We will miss you Neal  and I'm proud to say that I knew you.
