I met Jon early in our freshman year at UNM. He was one of the group that got me started playing bridge in the student union.
I spent a lot of time visiting Jon and enjoying the swimming pool at his place, in addition to spending many evenings playing bridge. He introduced me to my future wife by setting up a blind date; one of the very few that actually worked out. Linda lived across the street from John and they'd been close friends since childhood.
Jon died on an airplane flight returning from his dream vacation in Australia. He had a severe peanut allergy and pre-ordered a dinner with salad, asking that the peanuts be removed. The salad contained small bits of peanuts that he didn't catch prior to eating dinner.
Jon visited us here in CT shortly before departing for Australia, so I had an opportunity to spend some time with him prior to his death.
